The Y Chair is an armchair lounge designed to be visually striking and minimal while maintaining ergonomically correct proportions for enough comfort to sit back and enjoy conversation with friends.
I was intrigued by the material efficiency of sling chairs used for camping, and wanted to create a version more suited to a modern interior.
1/8 scale models—each with small differences—were 3D printed and assembled to better assess the form before the full-scale prototype was constructed.
Simple but strong doweling joints and wood splines join each piece of beech wood together for a sturdy frame.
A cutout detail at the top of the frame ensures the backrest maintains an ergonomically correct angle for comfort when sitting.
